Judson University is a private liberal arts college located in Elgin, Illinois. It was founded in 1963 to create a Christian school for young men and women of high moral character. History of Judson University

Judson was founded by NBTS, established in 1913, and developed the liberal arts department that became Judson University. When Northern's seminary division relocated from Chicago to Lombard in the early 1960s, the college was officially separated from the university. Located along the Fox River in Elgin, Illinois, Judson Institution was established in 1963 under the supervision of Dr. Benjamin P. Browne, president of both the college and the seminary.

The first American missionary, Adoniram Judson, left for Burma in 1813 and stayed there for the next 37 years. Thus, it only seemed fitting that his name be given to the institution that bears his honor. Mrs. Margaret Deuterman, the widow of a physician, was the owner of the estate that eventually became the location of Judson College.

During most of its first ten years of existence, Judson College struggled financially and encountered severe resistance from the trustees of NBTS, other Baptist seminaries, other Baptist institutions, and even the heads of the American Baptists. Despite this, enrollment kept rising, and by the Judson uni the fifth year, more Judson graduates went to Baptist seminaries than any of the other recognized Baptist universities.

On August 28, 2007, Judson Bible College officially became Judson University. The current president at Judson University is Gene C. Crume Jr. He has been the president since 2010, serving as Judson's vice president for institutional advancement from 2004-2009 and dean of students from 1999-2004.

Before joining Judson, he was a professor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, for more than 15 years, where he taught higher education administration and leadership courses. He also spent five years as deputy superintendent for elementary schools for Jersey City Public Schools in New Jersey, where he worked with families on educational plans and school improvement strategies.

Crume earned his Ph.D., master's, and bachelor's degrees all from Judson University while working full-time at various institutions throughout the Chicago area, such as Moody Bible Institute and Moody Bible Institute Training Center (formerly known as Midwest Bible College).
